Why Do We Pray
The question is why do we pray. We all have unique and very important reasons why we pray.
Do we pray because we are anxious. The bible says in Philippians 4:6-7 Not Be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
Do we pray because we are fearful? Psalm 18:6 reads in my distress I called to the Lord; I cried to my God for help. From his temple he heard my voice; my cry came before him, into his ears.
Do we pray because of worry? In Psalm 55:22 King David once said we ought to cast our cares on the Lord and he will sustain us; He will never let the righteous be shaken.
- Do we pray because life has shifted down a road of hardship?
- Do we pray because we are lonely?
- Do we pray because things are not the same?
Advantages of Prayer
- Or do we pray because we love God, and desire a relationship with Him?
- Do we pray because we want to get to know God as father?
- Do we pray because we have a revelation of what prayer is all about?
- Do we pray because we love to worship our heavenly father before we get in trouble or have a pray petition?
The true essence of prayer is for God’s children to unite as one with our heavenly father. Prayer shows Him like you would do with your biological father that you care and honour Him for being in your life. Is honour important? Yes, most definitely. There are different ways to honour our heavenly father but prayer is at the top of the list.
Prayer was so important to King David that he told the lord in Psalm 31:1-4 in thee, O Lord, do I put my trust; let me never be ashamed: deliver me in thy righteousness. As you read further on into the next verses David has a prayer request that can’t wait to be answered where he asks the lord to bow down thine ear to me; deliver me speedily: be thou my strong rock, for an house of defense to save me.
He also knows how to compliment and praise His heavenly father while waiting on his prayers to be answered by saying — For thou art my rock and my fortress; therefore, for thy name’s sake lead me, and guide me.
I love the lord because He heard my cry.
Have you ever been trouble?
David was in trouble, so he prayed to the lord pull me out of the net that they have laid privily for me: for thou art my strength. I will be glad and rejoice in thy mercy: for thou hast considered my trouble; thou hast known my soul in adversities; David begins to prophesy and say and my God hast not shut me up into the hand of the enemy: thou hast set my feet in a large room.
Make thy face to shine upon thy servant: save me for thy mercies’ sake and let me not be ashamed, let the lying lips be put to silence, which speak grievous things proudly and contemptuously against the righteous. Oh, how great is thy goodness, which thou hast laid up for them that fear thee; which thou hast wrought for them that trust in thee before the sons of men! Thou shalt hide them in the secret of thy presence from the pride of man: thou shalt keep them secretly in a pavilion from the strife of wicked people who speak wrongful things with their mouths.
Blessed be the Lord: for he hath shewed me his marvelous kindness in a beautiful and powerful city. So that the lord be glorified.
The next time you pray and cry out to your heavenly father my friend. Remember the prayers of King David and how he received a breakthrough in his prayer life. David told the lord, o Lord my God, I cried unto thee, and thou hast healed me and kept my soul from being destroyed because of great mercy and loving kindness.
Sing unto the Lord, O ye saints of his, and give thanks at the remembrance of his holiness. For his anger endureth but a moment; in his favour is life: weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning.
Finally, do you pray because you have a dream that’s been held up or a vision you have not seen come to past. Would you like to meet a king who had a dream? Well meet Martin Luther King Jr. He had a dream and he had to pray. Only God could answer his prayer. You are a king as well as a royal priesthood, a chosen generation and a people who God loves dearly.
Be A King
You don’t have to be Martin Luther King Jr. to have a dream or pray for your vision to come to past. Just have a prayer life that glorifies your heavenly Father. What’s your dream? What’s your vision? Habakkuh 2:2-3 And the Lord answered me, and said, Write the vision, and make it plain upon tables, that he may run that readeth it. For the vision is yet for an appointed time, but at the end it shall speak, and not lie: though it tarry, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry.
Quote: Stay on your knees until you see your prayer request come to past. But make sure your heavenly Father receives all the glory.
My Prayer: Merciful and loving Father, I repent, and I turn my back on my sins. I have no sins bigger than you can forgive. I intentionally pray because my heart is saddened by the way the world treats me. But I believe if you strenghten my inward man. I will be made whole. Just give me the strength to serve you again in a holy way for the gospel sake. In Jesus name. Amen.
